Program Description

The Deutschlandstipendium supports students and prospective students whose careers suggest outstanding achievements in their studies and career. The concept of achievement on which the scholarship is based is deliberately broad: good grades and academic achievements are just as important as the willingness to take on responsibility or the successful mastery of obstacles in one's own life and educational path.

Target Group

Eligible for funding are individuals who are enrolled on a course at the TUHH for the period for which funding is approved or who fulfill the course admission requirements and are about to be admitted.

Duration

As a rule, the approval period is one year. An extension of the scholarship is possible within the framework of a new application.

The maximum duration of funding will be geared to the standard duration of the relevant course of study (§ 6 paragraph1 StipG). It may be extended upon application if the period of study is prolonged for serious reasons such as disability, pregnancy, care and upbringing of a child or a subject-specific stay abroad (§ 7 paragraph 1 StipG). The scholarship will not be paid during a period of leave of absence from the course of study. When studies are resumed following the leave of absence the approval period will be adjusted on application from the scholarship holder (§ 7 Abs.2 StipG).

The scholarship may not be made dependent on a consideration for the private funder or on an employer-employee relationship or declaration of intent concerning a subsequent employer-employee relationship (§ 5 paragraph 2 StipG). The scholarship does not establish an employment contract with the TUHH.

Scholarship Value

The scholarship will be paid in the sum of EUR 300 per month as a non-repayable grant.

Selection Criteria

(1) The selection procedure will be conducted on the basis of applicants’ school or academic performance. Performance will be assessed as follows:

a. In the case of students in their first or second subject semester of an undergraduate course of studies assessment will be based on the grade of the university entrance qualification.

b. In the case of students in their first or second subject semester of a Master’s program, assessment will be based on the grade of the degree qualifying them for the Master’s program.

c. In the case of applications from individuals from the third subject semester, assessment will be based on the arithmetic mean of the grades obtained for the examinations passed to date, as shown in the transcript of records or a grade certificate. In the case of applications for the third subject semester, applicants must provide evidence of having obtained at least 48 CP.

d. Subject-related qualifications and achievements, such as special results, distinctions and prizes in connection with studies and previous professional activity and/or internships (§ 2 Par. 2 No. 1 StipV) will be taken into consideration in assessing performance.

(2) A further requirement for scholarship funding is evidence of at least one of the following requirements in accordance with § 2 Par. 2 Nos. 2 and 3 StipV:

a. Extracurricular engagement such as voluntary work, societal or social engagement, involvement in politics at university or otherwise, or active participation in religious communities, associations or clubs.

b. Aggravating circumstances impacting on the previous educational biography, such as:

Special personal or family circumstances such as disabilities or chronic illness, looking after ones own children, especially as a single parent, or caring for close relatives in need of care, Student jobs, non-academic family background (this family background exists if neither parent has a university degree or a migration background. A person has a migration background if he or she was not born in the territory of the present Federal Republic of Germany and immigrated in or after 1950 and/or the person does not have German citizenship or has not been naturalized. Moreover, Germans have a migration background if one parent fulfills at least one of the foregoing conditions.

These “soft” factors must be adequately substantiated and described. It is not enough just to refer to them in the text of your applications.

Selection decisions are taken by a central Selection Board (AK) comprising one professorial member from each School of Studies and from the General Engineering faculty, along with two student members of the Academic Senate (or an appointed deputy who has not applied for a Deutschlandstipendium him- or herself).

University entrance qualification, in the case of foreign certificates, a translation transferable to the German system along with a conversion to the German grading system. If you are no longer within the prescribed standard period of study for your course of study in the current or next semester, please enclose with your application an informal application for funding beyond the standard period of study and provide reasons for this.

The call for proposals for the 2023/24 funding period has been completed. The next call for proposals is expected to start in October 2024.

A scholarship can only be granted based on an application submitted on time and in the correct form. The application is made via an online form . The online form is only activated during the application period.

Approval/Rejection

Students granted a scholarship receive a notice of approval. The notice of approval will include:

-The amount of the scholarship

-The period for which it has been approved

-An indication that any extension of funding requires a new application

Programme Description

Every year the Foundation awards scholarships to committed students and doctoral candidates who have successfully completed a higher education programme in their country of origin, are pursuing post-graduate studies (post-graduate courses/Master's programme) or a doctorate or who are doing at least a 4-semester research project at a higher education institution in Germany. Applicants from any nation are invited to apply. Scholars are given the opportunity to complete a German higher education qualification, earn a doctorate or acquire additional knowledge in their academic fields. The Foundation's goal is to help further the education and training of young academics, expecting them to shoulder responsibility for the state and society in their home countries after their return. The sponsorship amount and duration depend on the academic goals of the applicant. In addition, a number of allowances and contributions may be applied for.

Target Group

The Target of this scholarship are committed and gifted students and doctoral candidates from any subject or nation who can relate to and stand up for the goals of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation.

Academic Requirements

Candidates have successfully completed a higher education programme in their country of origin and plan post-graduate studies (post-graduate courses/Master's programme), a doctorate or at least a 4-semester research project at a higher education institution in Germany.

Duration

The duration of the sponsorship depends on the circumstances and study aims as well as on the proven academic achievements. The grant period for graduates, that is, students doing post-graduate studies or a Master's programme, generally extends over 2 years. For doctoral candidates the sponsorship is awarded for a period of 3 years.

Scholarship Value

Graduates receive a monthly grant of 900 EUR.

PhD students, subject to fulfilment of the requirements for unconditional admission to a doctoral programme at an institution of higher education in Germany, as well as scholarship holders with a degree comparable to a Master's degree from a German higher education institution who are coming to Germany for the purpose of research and can provide evidence of at least 2 years of academic activity upon the start of the scholarship, receive a monthly grant of 1,200 EUR.

Program Description

This scholarship programme offers you the opportunity to continue your academic education in Germany with a postgraduate course of study.

Target Group

The target of this scholarship are excellently-qualified graduates who have completed a first degree (Bachelor, Diploma or comparable academic degree) at the latest by the time they commence their scholarship-supported study programme.

What can be funded?

Participation in a postgraduate programme after a first undergraduate course of study for the purpose of technical or scientific specialisation Specifically, the following is supported: a postgraduate or Master's degree programme completed at a state or state-recognised university in Germany or the first or second year of study at a state or state-recognised German university as part of a postgraduate or Master's degree programme completed in the home country or in another foreign country; recognition of the academic achievements rendered in Germany must be guaranteed. The standard period of study of the postgraduate or Master's degree programme should not be exceeded as a result of the study year in Germany.

Duration of the funding

Depending on the length of your chosen programme, the scholarship is intended for visits of between 10 and 24 months.

The scholarships are awarded for the duration of the standard period of study for the chosen programme (up to a maximum of 24 months). Please state the entire period for which you wish to apply for a scholarship in your application. For example, if you are planning a 2-year degree programme, you must directly indicate two years as the desired scholarship duration in your application. After the first year of study, your academic achievements will be assessed in a further funding procedure. If this shows that you will successfully complete your programme within a reasonable period of time, the scholarship will continue as planned.

The scholarship usually begins on 1st October of the following year, or earlier if you take a German language course prior to the study programme.

To enable scholarship holders to learn German in preparation for their stay in the country, DAAD offers the following services: Payment of course fees for the online language course "Deutsch-Uni Online (DUO)" (www.deutsch-uni.com) for six months after receipt of the Scholarship Award Letter if necessary: Language course (2, 4 or 6 months) before the start of the study visit; the DAAD decides whether to fund participation and for how long depending on German language skills and project. Participation in a language course is compulsory if the study programme is taught in German. Allowance for a personally chosen German language course during the scholarship period Reimbursement of the fees for the TestDaF test which has either been taken in the home country after receipt of the Scholarship Award Letter or in Germany before the end of the funding period As an alternative to the TestDaF for scholarship holders who have taken a language course beforehand: the fee for a DSH examination taken during the scholarship period may be reimbursed. Programme Description

The BAföG training assistance provides state funding for pupils and students at vocational and general educational secondary schools, colleges, academies and institutions of higher education, including the compulsory internships related to training and education. The assistance is likewise extended to public and private (if equivalent) establishments for education. Training via corresponding distance learning courses is eligible for funding, as well. The training assistance may also be granted for a training period abroad. Foreigners and German citizens are eligible for the training assistance. The exact requirements for qualification depend on the candidate's legal status, such as citizenship in other EU countries, settlement permit or the recognition of a refugee status. The training assistance is intended to contribute to the cost of living and education. To this end, the BAföG Act provides qualifying lump-sum rates, which vary according to the type of training.

Target Group

German and EU citizens as well as persons with a legal status as per BAföG § 8 who are in vocational training at a school or academy, completing a higher-education entrance qualification or studying at a higher-education institution.

Duration

The BAföG grant covers the duration of the training, school holidays and lecture breaks included. As a general rule, pupils are eligible for funding as long as they attend training or education. The funding period for students generally corresponds to the standard period of study, the so-called maximum funding period. Funding beyond this point is possible for a limited period of time in exceptional cases.

The maximum amount (including healthcare and long-term-care insurance) for students at higher education institutions who are not living in the same household as their parents is currently of 934 EUR per month.

Programme Description

Applicants come from Africa, Asia, Latin America and Eastern Europe. Students in any subject area are eligible to apply, if they demonstrate excellent school or academic merit, wish to study in Germany, are committed to the values of social democracy and live by them. Scholarships are awarded to highly-performing students and include a comprehensive seminar programme to help enhance the candidates' social competences and academic skills. Individual support by an on-site liaison lecturer is another benefit of the sponsorship. Each year up to 40 students are awarded FES sponsorships.

Scholarship Value

International students receive a monthly base amount of 830 EUR (for Bachelor's/Diplom/Magister/state examination programmes) or 850 EUR (for Master's programmes). In addition, costs for health insurance are funded and scholars with a child receive a family allowance of 276 EUR. The scholarship does not have to be repaid.

Academic Requirements

Admission to study or enrolment at a state or state-recognized higher-education institution in Germany sufficient knowledge of German, although the courses are held in English. This means a 'Deutsche Sprachprüfung für den Hochschulzugang' of at least DSH level 2, a 'Test Deutsch als Fremdsprache' of at least level 4 or a 'Zertifikat C 1' by a Goethe Institute Number of Scholarships up to 40 scholarships per year

Academic Requirements

You will begin your master's degree at a German university in the coming semester. At the time of your application, your master's degree program has not yet started.

You will study full-time and in a face-to-face course.

At the time of your application you are not older than 35 years.

You have (presumably) completed your bachelor's degree with a grade point average of 1.7 or better. Alternatively, you are among the best 10% of graduates in your class in your subject.

Program Description

The goal of the Rheinstahl-Foundation is supporting of talented and commited students during their studies, both financially and, if necessary, with different events and workshops. The Rheinstahl-Foundation supports students who have already completed half of their studies (currently in their 3rd semester) or are currently involved in Master programme.

Target Group

The Rheinstahl scholarship is aimed at talented and high-performing students of engineering and economics as well as MINT subjects who are at least in the 2nd semester of their bachelor's degree (or in a higher semester) or in their master's degree and who, with their continuous voluntary, make an important contribution to our society through non-university involvement.

Duration

Ideally, the support begins during the start of the degree in order to establish a close relationship with the Rheinstahl Foundation at an early stage and ends with the completion of the degree within the standard period of study.

Scholarship Value

The Rheinstahl scholarship includes financial support of €550.00 per semester as well as non-material support such as networking, regular scholarship holder and alumni meetings with impulses and workshops, and placement of internships. In addition to the semester funding, the foundation covers the costs associated with the scholarship holder meetings.
